CAPRI News 2010
If you are doing
nothing on September 5 then
get along to Littlehampton where there is a huge custom and classic car show
taking place. Club entry is free (book now through club) individual entry
is £10 per car. It will be a great family day out as there is music
courtesy of the support from the local radio station, food, drink and much
more to enjoy. the first event of its kind at this venue and already 600 custom
cars are booked in, don't miss it.
Malvern Classic Car show August 1st, 28 Capri's on show with
Capri Power, the weather was fine and warm and everyone relaxed and enjoyed the
ambience.
Cars in the Park is a show we haven't attended
for some years so weather looking good we gave it a whirl. We had
left it too late to book a club stand, so we all met in the car park
and parked side by side - a total of 8 Capri's.
This year there was no entry charge, no plaques,
no trophies and no arena but they did run a 4x4 course.
There was a collection for Help for Heroes, but
this was voluntary.
Overall we had a relaxing day out.
But sad thing is they don't know if it will run again as the 'ELF and Safety
have stepped in and are making it almost impossible for people to organise a
good event.
New show at Warwick Castle on Father Day, fantastic venue, only
problem is pre 1973 cars only, so as my Mk1 is 1969 we were eligible.
Only four Fords at the show, ranging from a 1923
model T a 1955 Consul, a 1966 Mustang and the newest Ford my 1969 Capri.
However there was the Batmobile which children of
all ages (us included) had great fun having a sit in. The Austin powers
'Union Jack' Jaguar was also on show as was the James Bond green Jaguar.
We will post pictures soon.
It was a great day out and perfect for families,
so make this one to look out for next year - if your Capri is 1973 or
earlier.
Classic Ford Day at Santa
Pod. Starting off early we met some of the club members on a service
station alongside the A14 then drove in convoy to the showground, picking up a
couple more Capri's on the way.
As usual it took some time to enter the
showground and as we were well to the back ( cause we booked late) we had to
negotiate the other clubs to reach our spot on the tarmac but near to the end of
the strip. The heavy skies were threatening rain all day, but then
late afternoon the heavens opened, rain like stair rods washed the site and left
some traders and cars standing in several inches of water.
Up until then it had been a really nice day out.
We had a line up of 9 Capri's. Tony had
travelled all the way from near Newcastle in his well know BP Capri. It
was nice to see Martin's Mk1 for the first time and all the other Capri's dotted
around the site. It does seem that people travel along way to this show.
So it was a shame that getting out proved so difficult as well as muddy and
stony.
Ah well home to getting out the buckets and
cleaning several inches of mud off the cars before they are put away.
We noticed that there were far fewer Capri's at
this event than in previous years, was it the weather or are Capri's in the
decline, or are people just fed up with the show scene?
